The Dream Practice
A conversation with Jack Csenge, CFP® | Beyond Referrals Episode 28
When I first met Jack Csenge he described something I have been thinking about ever since.
The dream practice.
Referrals flowing naturally to the right people. Running into your clients on a Tuesday night at the ice cream shop with your kids. A thriving, growing firm where AI is doing the operational heavy lifting, so you can show up fully present and fully human for every single person you serve.
I wanted to know how he built that. This conversation is the answer.
A Multigenerational Practice With Deep Roots
Csenge Advisory Group is not a new firm. Jack's dad started it, and what it has become over time is one of the most admirable practices I have come across, over $4 billion in AUM, deep local roots, and a nationwide client base that includes clients who fly in from across the country to attend their events.
That combination is rare. Local enough that Jack runs into his clients at the ice cream shop with his kids on a Tuesday night. National enough that their reach and reputation extend far beyond their home market. Both things at once, sustained over generations.
That is not an accident. It is the result of consistent, intentional decisions about how to serve clients, how to build community, and how to show up over time.
How They Are Using AI, and Doing It Right
Of everything I have seen in terms of how advisors are actually integrating AI into their practice, Jack and his team are doing it right.
Client screening, meeting prep, meeting follow-up, plan building, execution, even client gifts, they have found a way to automate the operational and mental load while keeping the experience personal, memorable, and genuinely special for clients. That balance is what most advisors are trying to figure out. Jack has cracked it.
The result is that the advisors at Csenge are freed up to do the thing that actually matters most, show up fully present and fully human for the person in front of them. AI carries the weight that used to live in their heads. And that capacity shows up in every client interaction.
The Philosophy: Just Help the Client in Front of You
This was one of my favorite moments of the entire conversation and one I am still sitting with.
Instead of squeezing every client into a service tier, a rigid process, or a pre-defined workflow, Jack's approach is simpler than that. Help the client with what they actually need help with. First. Before anything else. Let AI handle the operational heavy lifting so you can be fully focused on doing really good work for the person across from you.
That is the whole philosophy. And in a world where so much of client service has been systematized and tiered and productized, it is a really powerful reframe. The best client experience is not the most efficient one. It is the one where the client feels like you actually saw them.
Revisit Your Tech Stack Every Year
Jack has done serious due diligence on technology for advisors and his recommendation was clear, revisit and reevaluate your tech stack every single year.
The pace of new tools and new capabilities is moving faster than most firms can track. What was the best option twelve months ago may not be the best option today. Staying current is not a luxury. It is a competitive requirement.
If you want Jack's recommended tech stack list, reach out to Emily directly and she will send it to you.
Events as a Growth and Retention Strategy
This part of the conversation was one of the most practical for advisors who are thinking about how to deepen client relationships and build community.
Csenge Advisory Group is exceptional at live experiences and client events. Their clients fly in from across the country to attend. Events are a massive part of how they show appreciation, deepen retention, and create the kind of community that becomes a genuine competitive advantage. People come to the events and they want to be part of what this firm is.
That is not something you can automate. It is something you build over time through consistent, genuine investment in the people you serve.
What to Look for When Hiring in an AI-First World
This part of the conversation was specifically important for anyone building a team right now.
Your hires need both. Strong technical skills, knowing how to use AI, how to build systems, how to work with the tools that are reshaping this profession. AND exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to connect with clients, build trust, and show up as a human being in a world that is increasingly automated.
If you are not integrating AI knowledge into your hiring criteria right now, you need to start. The advisors who are going to thrive in this profession are the ones who can do both, and the firms that hire for both are going to have a significant advantage.
The Takeaway
The dream practice is real. Jack Csenge has built it. And the blueprint is in this conversation.
AI doing the heavy lifting. Community built through genuine investment in events and relationships. A philosophy of just helping the client in front of you. Multigenerational roots that compound over time.
