The Next Generation is Doing it Differently, and We Need to Pay Attention
A conversation with Mando Sallavanti III | Beyond Referrals Episode 19
Most advisors are following a playbook that was written for a different era.
Warm market, cold calls, referrals, repeat. It worked for decades. It still works, to a degree. But the advisors who are building something truly different, something that compounds and scales and attracts the right clients from all over the country, are not following that playbook anymore.
Mando Sallavanti is one of them. And his story is genuinely unlike most of the ones I hear.
From Sneakers to Top 25
Before any of this, Mando was selling sneakers during COVID.
That origin story matters because it tells you something about how he thinks. He is an entrepreneur at his core. He sees opportunity where others see obstacles. He builds things. And when he got into financial services, he did not just plug into the existing system and hope it worked. He built something of his own from scratch.
Today he is a top 25 producer at MassMutual with 50,000+ LinkedIn followers and a nationwide client base of high-earning sales professionals and entrepreneurs earning $500K+ income. He did all of that inside a compliance-heavy environment, without a warm market to lean on, by committing to a strategy that most advisors around him thought was either unnecessary or not worth the effort.
The Decision That Changed Everything
A few years ago Mando made a simple but profound decision.
He committed.
Not to tinkering with content. Not to posting occasionally and checking to see if anything moved. He committed to having a real plan, a real strategy, and executing it with consistency over time. That decision is the single thing that separates his results from every advisor who has tried content and seen nothing happen.
Tinkering looks like commitment from the outside. It produces completely different results. The advisors who are winning digitally are not doing something fundamentally different from the advisors who are not. They are just actually doing it, fully, with a plan, for long enough to let it compound.
Story-Driven Content in the Age of AI
We have talked about this on the podcast before and it keeps coming up because it keeps being true.
Educational content is dead. Not because it is bad. Because it is everywhere and anyone can produce it in thirty seconds. When AI can generate a perfectly accurate, well-structured list of financial planning tips faster than you can open your laptop, that content has no competitive advantage.
What cannot be replicated is your story. Your voice. Your perspective. The specific way you see your clients' problems and the specific things you believe about how to solve them. Mando's personality comes through in everything he posts and that is exactly why people follow him, trust him, and eventually hire him from across the country. He is not producing content. He is communicating who he is.
Letting Go of the Fear
This was one of the most honest moments of the conversation and I think it is going to resonate with a lot of advisors.
The fear of being judged by peers is real. What will my managing partner think? What will colleagues say? What happens if I say something that someone disagrees with?
Mando addressed this directly and his perspective is freeing. The advisors who are building something meaningful online have made peace with the fact that visibility comes with opinions. That is not a risk of showing up. It is the point. The ones who agree with you and are attracted to your voice are your people. The ones who are not were never going to be your clients anyway.
How His Niche Emerged
Here is one of the most practically important lessons from this conversation.
Mando did not sit down at the beginning and map out his ideal client avatar in a strategy session. He showed up consistently, attracted people, paid attention to who was responding and converting, and his niche clarity emerged through that process. He works with high-earning sales professionals and entrepreneurs earning $500K+ income now. But that specificity came from showing up first, not from having it perfectly figured out before he started.
That is the journey most advisors are on. Your niche does not have to be perfect on day one. It will find you as much as you find it, if you commit to the process.
Followers to Fact Finders
Mando now teaches other advisors the exact frameworks and strategies that built his business through a coaching community called Followers to Fact Finders. He is paying forward what he learned so the next wave of advisors does not have to figure it all out alone.

The Takeaway
The old playbook is not going to build the practice you want. Not because it does not work at all but because the advisors who commit to building something different are going to be in a different category entirely in five years.
Make the decision. Not to tinker. To commit.
